A three-peat is very much alive for the Middle Lake Avengers girls basketball team, as Hoopla enters it's second and final day Saturday.

The Avengers tipped off against Asquith to open their tournament Friday night. Middle Lake got out to a 23-17 at the break before earning a 62-48 win to stamp their ticket to the championship game - their fourth in a row.

Rayna Olynuk was the leading scorer for the Avengers, accounting for 34 points.

After three straight years of meeting Kenaston in the 1A final, Middle Lake will now take on Fillmore, who upset the top-seeded Kodiaks. Game time is 5:00pm.


In 2A boys play, the St. Brieux Crusaders are back in the provincial final pacing to a high-scoring 99-93 win over Regina Harvest City.

Andrew Babb led all scorers with 36 points, as the Crusaders seek back-to-back championships, and three out of four.

It will be a re-match of last year's final, as St. Brieux will meet Ecole Canadienne at 7:00pm.


As St. Brieux seeks their third title in four years, so too does the Wynyard girls team, as they advanced to the 2A girls championship.

The Bears got out to a 50-26 lead at the half over Kinistino before cruising to a 90-52 win.

Tayler Johnson had 14 points to lead Wynyard in scoring.

Aiming for their second straight provincial title, the Bears will meet last year's bronze medalists from Regina Harvest City.


The HCI Mohawks girls took to the court in the final set of games on day one, as they meet the top-seeded Lumsden Angels.

Trailing 22-8 after the first quarter, the Mohawks began to chip away in the second half, cutting the deficit to 11 points by the break, as Lumsden led 38-27.

Ultimately, the Angels were able to fight off the battle-worthy Mohawks, as they took the game 76-46.

Angela Baran was the game's leading scorer, account for 30 points for HCI.

In the other semi-final, the Clavet Cougars paced their way to a 75-61 win over Indian Head.

The Mohawks will meet Indian Head at 1:00pm in the bronze medal game, while Clavet and Lumsden tip-off for gold at 7:00pm.


In the 4A boys bracket, the Melfort Comets will have an opportunity for a second consecutive provincial championship, as they knocked off John Paul II from North Battleford by a 72-63 margin.

The Comets led 38-34 at the break before slightly furthering their lead to take the game in the second half.

Jomar Malaggay led the Comets in scoring with 19, as they now get set to meet the Weyburn Eagles for the title.
