The Broncos were back at home Sunday for a rare afternoon start against the Melville Millionaires.

The early start time didn't seem to bother the home team as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before picking up a 4-3 shoot-out victory to bust from a five game losing streak.

Jarrett Fontaine gave the Broncos an early lead stealing the puck from a Mils' defender while short handed, the 20 year-old hometown product has five goals on the year.

Rookie Rock Ruschkowski enjoyed a breakout game in front of his parents from Calgary in town for the game. He snapped a long wrist shot passed Brandon Wells giving Humboldt a 2-0 lead in the opening frame. Tristan Hermanson was given the lone assist.

The second period wasn't as favourable for the green and gold, Melville scored twice in the second tying the contest at 2-2. Cole Filler and Tyler Kreklewich were the Mils goal scorers.

Kreklewich scored again in the third to give the Millionaires their first lead but it didn't last long.

Just 35 seconds after the 3-2 goal, Ruschkowski notched his second of the game and third of the year evening the contest at 3-3. Laramie Kostalansky fed Ruschkowski for the lone helper which came at the 11:43 mark.

Brett Clark and Wells went back and forth making key stops for their hockey teams as they fought through 60 minutes to each earn a point.

Overtime would solve nothing, the Broncos would get two goals in four attempts in the shoot-out. One from Corey Dambrauskas, the other from Ruschkowski.

"Too much," when asked what was going through his mind ahead of shooting in front of 531 people at the Elgar Petersen Arena. "Actually my parents were here today all the way from Calgary and I wanted to score for them. I knew what move I was going to do from the start and I just got lucky and put it in."

Despite the break through performance for the 18 year-old, he said the win was needed incredibly.

"Yeah no kidding, we have been on a little bit of a losing streak there. A few tough games, I didn't think we were playing that bad, it was about time we were going to get a win. Thank god it was tonight because if it was a few more who knows what would have happened."

Clark finished with 36/39 saves and 3/4 in the SO.

Both teams were 0/4 on the power-play.

Humboldt will now prepare to host the Estevan Bruins for another Toonie Tuesday game beginning at 7:30.

You can hear more from Ruschkowski below in his post-game interview with Bolt FM's Clark Stork.

In the one other game in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Sunday, the Battlefords downed Notre Dame 4-1.
