With summer approaching and school soon to be let out, there will be an increased presence of younger bikers. Safe Communities Humboldt & Area wants children to be prepared and will host its seventh annual Bike Rodeo and Safety Day on May 25 for students grades 1 - 5 from St.Dominic and Humboldt Public School.

The event is set to take place in the north Uniplex parking lot, or if the weather does not cooperate, the Humboldt Curling Rink. If weather permits, states Safe Communities, students will be escorted by RCMP from their schools to the Uniplex.

Safe Communities asks drivers to be cautious on the streets on May 25, as students will be walking or riding bikes from school to the Uniplex from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm.

The event includes a bicycle safety check, helmet fitting, and bicycle obstacle courses. A draw will be made for all students present to raffle off a youth bike provided to Safe Communities by Delco Water, PFD donated by Humboldt Aquatic Centre, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors donated by Kidde Canada, bike helmets donated by Terry’s No Frills and numerous other prizes donated by participating partners.

Safe Communities states the program was made possible through the support of Saskatchewan Lotteries, SaskWater and the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute.

Extra bikes will be provided by Universal Sports and Canadian Tire to ensure every child has a bike for the day.
