The Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame is celebrating its 50th year as it's inducting another class into its ranks.

Nominations came in plentifully for a lot of producers and people who support them, but in the end, six were selected:

  • Jim Bessel, for his work on the development of canola for production with the Canola Council of Canada and the Saskatchewan Canola Growers Association.
  • Margaret Crowle, for her participation in a broad range of beneficial rural activities throughout her lifetime, including her work with the Consumer Association of Canada.
  • Jack Dawes,  for his work telling industry stories through his career as an agriculture broadcaster and work with the Prairie Oat Growers Association, the  Saskatchewan Oat Development Commission, and the Manitoba Oat Growers Association.
  • Leslie Hill, for the technical knowledge he granted to farmers through his work as the Manager of Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute’s combine testing and evaluation program.
  • Dr. Jeff Schoenau, for helping farmers through his role as a professional Agrologist with the Department of Soil Science at the University of Saskatchewan.
  • Mark Silzer, for his work supporting bison herds, including serving on the boards of the Saskatchewan and Canadian Bison Associations, also as president and chair of the CBA from 2004-2016.

The six will be part of a  ceremony this November, to recognize their contributions to the Saskatchewan agriculture industry.

As well, the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame is asking any inductees from the past 50 years to join them, as the day will host celebrations as part of the 50th anniversary.
