The Saskatchewan Association of Fire Chiefs (SAFC) has started a 50/50 draw to help fire departments within Saskatchewan raise funds.

Humboldts Fire chief, and president of the SAFC, Mike Kwaznica, explained how long this project has been in the works.

“Over the last year and a half, we’ve been looking at the venture of starting a 50/50 for all the fire departments across the province, using a company called Rafflebox.”

SAFC signed a contract with Rafflebox, giving it the ability to raise money for the fire departments.

“We’re doing a weekly draw, and each week we’ve capped our sales at $200,000 across the entire province. The winner of the 50/50 is a collaboration of all the 50/50 tickets sold across the province.”

Kwasnica stated 59 fire departments have already signed up to participate in the 50/50, with more expected to join the upcoming months.

“If you buy a Rafflebox ticket 50/50 through the SAFC, you can pick Humboldt as the department that you want to sponsor. We do get a portion of those proceeds that are sold for the Humboldt Fire Department, so it’s a great fundraiser for any Fire Department.”

Tickets are available online by clicking here.

“Regina’s Fire Department volunteered to do the draw, so they will physically pick the balls and pick the numbers weekly. It will be done on Facebook live every wednesday, and then we will notify the winner of their winnings.”

Kwasnica explained what the funds will go towards for the Fire Departments.

“The requirement is that it has to be used for fire training and equipment, it’s not a fundraiser for social funds. It’s going to be used for purchasing equipment for our fire department that every fire department needs.”
