The SaskTel Board of Directors today announced that Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO, has decided to retire at the end of May to early June 2023 timeframe, with an effective date that allows for a smooth transition to be determined.

“The board is extremely grateful for Doug’s leadership during his tenure as President and CEO of SaskTel,” said SaskTel Board Chair Grant Kook. “Doug is an exceptional leader with a track record for delivering on results year over year. We are thankful for Doug’s remarkable vision, innovation, and commitment to providing world-class communications services to the province of Saskatchewan.”

During Burnett’s time as President, SaskTel says he made significant contributions to their ongoing success, undertaking significant infrastructure projects including SaskTel’s 5G Network Modernization Program, Wireless Saskatchewan, and the ongoing Rural Fibre Initiative under his guidance.

"I'd like to thank Doug for his over 30 years of service to SaskTel, and for his leadership in navigating a complex and competitive industry," said Don Morgan, Minister responsible for SaskTel. "Doug has been instrumental in delivering on our government’s plan to build a better Saskatchewan by investing in infrastructure that supports and strengthens growth and continued prosperity in all communities in our province.”

Burnett joined the company in 1990 as Corporate Counsel and after seven years in this position became General Manager, Human Resources. In 2003, he was appointed Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Services. Doug was Acting President for several years, before being appointed President and CEO in 2019.

He and his wife will remain in Saskatchewan after his retirement and look forward to spending time with their children and grandchildren in the years ahead.

The executive search to select a new President and CEO will be led by the SaskTel Board of Directors and will begin shortly.
