The Humboldt Camera Club is up and running, and it’s looking for new members. Anyone with an interest in digital photography and who wants to learn more from like-minded shutterbugs can join. Kids are welcome when accompanied by a parent. It’s a live forum for those interested in anything from landscapes to wildlife to portraits.

John Lee with the club says they are set to go every Monday evening.

“Saskatoon and Regina both have large clubs, but there is nothing in our location,” says Lee on the reasons for the startup. “It’s too far to drive in the winter. But I believe there’s a number of people in the area interested. Basically, it’s to fill a niche in this area. Anyone from anywhere can come.”

Every month, the group has an informal competition around the categories of nature, landscape, portrait, and “other”, and there’s a judging of the photo of the month in each of the categories. The hope is the group will grow in numbers and interest so that an exhibition of members' work would be possible.

The group meets in the St. Andrews Anglican Church upstairs each Monday night from 7 to 9 pm. For more information or to join, contact Melanie at (306) 231-3139.
