Frigid temperatures or not, there’s guaranteed to be fish and fun out on this ice this weekend as Lake Lenore Lions present their annual fish derby, hot on the heels of the annual Wildlife Federation Smoker. The event is a go on Saturday, January 20 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The ice is in great shape, and the fishing is fine, says one of the organizers, Chris Bauer.

“We’ve got about $25,000 worth of prizes to be given out, including cash prizes for largest fish, as well as a whole selection of ice augers, ice tents, pressure washers, Milwaukee tools.”

That’s just part of the potential haul for winners this year. The competition for this catch and release for walleye, northern pike and perch event is open to anglers of all skill levels. The prize breakdown works like this:

50% Cash payout (1st 50%, 2nd 25%, 3rd 15%, 4th 10%)

$500 Bonus for largest Walleye – Horizon Fertilizers

$250 Largest Perch Prize – Lakeview Insurance Brokers

50/50 – Last year it was over $5500!
