As the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation approaches us on Friday, September 30, the Westminster affirm team is holding a walk in support of the day.

“Wear your orange shirt, or pin on an orange ribbon that we will have there, and come walk with us. We are going to start at 10:00 am under the Kevin Pee-ace Reconciliation Mural on the City hall at Humboldt Civic Park and we will walk to Westminster United Church,” says Allison Sarauer, with the Westminster affirm team.

Upon arrival at the church, there will be a gathering and reflection with refreshments, and they invite everyone to join in.

“If the weather is poor, and we are not able to walk, we will still gather at 10:30 at the church.”

She also spoke as to why Orange Shirt Day is so important.

“Orange Shirt Day is an important public space for truth-telling, and for commitments to challenge ongoing colonization. As part of Westminster's living into the apologies, let’s join with others to help ensure the ongoing history and impacts of the residential school systems and make sure they are never forgotten, and that together we can bring about real change.”
