Anton Gusikoski

December 15, 1928 – October 15, 2016

The death of Mr. Anton Leo Gusikoski, 87 years, of Viscount occurred on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon.  Anton “Tony” was born on December 15, 1928 at home in the Viscount district to Peter and Veronica (nee Gurski) Gusikoski.  He grew up on the farm and attended Auckland and Easterlea Schools.  Following his schooling, he worked for local farmers including Hannigan’s Dairy Farm.  In 1950, he began work at Sisters of St. Elizabeth Hospital taking care of a variety of responsibilities.  It was while working there that he met Mary Thiemann and they were married on November 8, 1955 in St. Gregor.  In 1957, they moved to the farm at Viscount where he farmed in the summers and worked at various mines in the winter months as a boiler man, having attained his 3rd class steam ticket.  They operated a mixed farming operation including grain, cattle, pigs, chicken and turkeys.  He enjoyed farming and passing on his knowledge to his sons.  They also enjoyed butchering and sausage making together.  Over the years, he coached all of his children in hockey and ball.  Tony was a member of the Viscount Rec Board.  His faith was an important part of his life.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 64 years, serving as Grand Knight for several years.  Tony  also was in the first class for the lay formation program in the Saskatoon diocese and was a Lay Presider for many years.  He enjoyed visiting with friends and family, relaxing with them and enjoying a beer.  Tony was very close to his siblings, spending time together with them and taking annual trips to Manitou.  He and Mary, along with several of his siblings enjoyed a cruise leaving from New York and traveling up the eastern coast to Halifax.  As his family grew to include grandchildren and great grandchildren, he was a very proud grandpa and enjoyed spending time with all of them.  Tony will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Mary Gusikoski of Saskatoon; their nine children, 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren:  CURTIS Gusikoski (Kelly) of Strathroy, ON and family Taylor Gibbs and son Jackson; GLENN Gusikoski of Saskatoon; LES (Sandy) Gusikoski of Viscount and family Lee (Jerri) Gusikoski and children Gracyn, Lane and Rhett,  Jeff’s children Aurora and Christopher, Mitch (Chandra) Gusikoski, Vincent Gusikoski and Lacey Gusikoski; DAVID Gusikoski of Viscount; LAWRIE (Alana) Gusikoski of Viscount and family Catlin Gusikoski (fiancée Dawn), Maverick Gusikoski and Dexter Gusikoski; RON Gusikoski (Diane Dieno) of Viscount and family Cole Bradford, Logan Gusikoski and Dawson Gusikoski; MICHELLE (Garry) Volk of Viscount and family Matthew Volk (fiancée Melissa), Josh Volk and Landon Volk; TONY (Megan) Gusikoski of Calgary and family Nolan Gusikoski and Zachery Gusikoski; and DIANA (Trevor) Hale of Saskatoon; brothers and sisters:  Iona Stites, Leonard (Joyce) Gusikoski, Cecilia Gibson, Edwin (Gloria) Gusikoski, Dorothy (Ray) Hagel, Eileen Leffler, and Gordon (Brenda) Gusikoski; sisters-in-law Mona Gusikoski, Helen Thiemann and Helen Foley; brother-in-law Bill Welter; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Tony was predeceased by his parents Peter and Veronica Gusikoski; son Michael Gusikoski; grandson Jeffrey Gusikoski; sister Tillie Welter; brother Albert Gusikoski; and numerous in-laws. The Prayer Service for Tony was held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was offered on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.  Both services were held at St. Alphonse Roman Catholic Church, Viscount. Interment followed in the St. Alphonse Parish Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Tony’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
