Anton Joseph Poth
April 26, 1934 – June 22, 2018

The death of Anton “Tony” Joseph Poth of Lakeview Pioneer Village, Wakaw, SK, occurred at his residence on Friday, June 22, 2018. He was 84 years of age. Tony was born to Michael and Mary (nee Gullrick) Poth at Hercegfalva, Hungary. Life in Europe was very difficult those years. In 1949, at the age of 15, he immigrated to Canada with his family to live with his mother’s sister on her farm near Yellow Creek. Tony worked on the farm for a few years. On October 4, 1961, he married Mary Rose Zimmer. They began their life together at St. Benedict, SK. Their son Jeff and daughter Sandra were born there. After moving to Cudworth, SK, their daughter Brenda was born, thus completing their family of three. Tony was employed by the R.M. of Hoodoo, working on construction, road building, and patrolling, a career that spanned 30 years. Tony took great pride in his family, his home, and his big yard with beautiful trees. His greatest joy was derived from family gatherings. Other enjoyable hours were spent woodworking, making yard ornaments and things for the kids, and playing his accordion. Among his fondest memories were his wedding day, the births of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, the many family get-togethers and celebrations over the years, and becoming a Canadian citizen on January 28, 1964. Tony will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his three children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren: Jeff (Melinda) Poth of Calgary, AB, and family, Thomas Poth and Laura Poth; Sandra (Randy) Durant of Martensville, SK, and family, Crystal (Chris) Chahley and their children Logan Chahley and Addison Chahley, and Tyler (Jenna) Durant; and Brenda (Mike) Birchfield of Abbotsford, BC, and family, Justin Birchfield and Jacob Birchfield; one sister, Elizabeth Herman of Wakaw, SK; sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Poth of Saskatoon, SK; Margaret Goller of Wakaw, SK; Irene Zimmer of Middle Lake, SK; and Tilly Mannen of Brantford, ON; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Rose (nee Zimmer) Poth (September 20, 2016); parents, Michael and Mary (nee Gullrick) Poth; one brother, Joseph Poth; a brother and a sister (in infancy); and by brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Dan Herman, Edward Goller, Joe Zimmer Jr., Cecelia (Charles) Horn, and John Mannen.
