Arthur Hugie
January 1, 1925 – December 4, 2018

Arthur “Art” Hugie of Humboldt, SK passed away at the Humboldt District Hospital on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. He was 93 years of age. Arthur Anton Hugie was born on January 1, 1925 in Vancouver, BC to Anton and Katherine (nee Metler) Hugie. They moved to the Glen Afton area of SK where his sister Marion and his brothers Charlie, John and Frank were born, completing their family. In 1952 Art met the love of his life, Wilma Horvath at a dance and the rest is history. Art and Wilma were married on October 15, 1953 and they were blessed with two sons, Ernie in 1954 and Don in 1961. Art loved dancing, fishing, curling, horses, playing cards and camping but his greatest love was farming, and he was a farmer to the end. Art farmed with his boys, combining barley for the last time in 2014. Art will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years Wilma (nee Horvath) Hugie; sons, Ernie (Carol) Hugie and Don (Darcy) Hugie; two grandchildren, Corey (Vanessa) Hugie and Ryan Hugie; and four great-grandchildren, Rory, Paige, Calista and Electra Hugie. Art is also survived by his sister Marion Schmalenberg; brother John (Esther) Hugie; and sister-in-law Mary Hugie. Art was predeceased by his parents Anton and Katherine (nee Metler) Hugie; brothers Charlie Hugie and Frank Hugie; and brother-in-law Albert Schmalenberg. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Art’s final resting place will be at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Raymore, SK.
