Briar Charles Hamilton

February 20, 1991 – August 28, 2020

The sudden passing of Briar Hamilton, formerly of Leroy, Saskatchewan, occurred late on Friday, August 28, 2020, just south of Southey, SK. He was 29 years of age. Briar was born in Saskatoon and grew up and lived on the family farm near LeRoy, SK, until 1999. His school years were mostly spent in LeRoy, except for two years in Lanigan, SK for Grades 3 and 4, and he finished Grades 11 and 12 in Humboldt, SK. While still in school, Briar worked at the Coop Agro and the pig barns for Stomp in LeRoy and after he moved out on his own, in August 2011 he worked at 7-11, Peavy Mart and Rona. Briar’s first year training as an electrician began February 3, 2014 and he started working on his apprenticeship. At this time, this did not work out, so he worked at construction and helped build the new Coop grocery store in Humboldt. By October that year he was employed with Broadgrain Seed Cleaners in Dafoe, SK and he worked there until he moved to Regina, SK in the fall of 2016. His goal was to enter Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Electrical Engineering Program at the Moose Jaw Campus and to achieve this, he focused on improving his grades. Until this year he continued to work on his studies and held several different jobs which included: Security, A1 Rentals (event set-ups), and Weed Man (yard maintenance). His plan for studying electrical engineering changed as this program was cancelled for the Fall of 2020 due to COVID-19. He was accepted into the Instrumentation Program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic and was to begin on Monday, August 31, 2020. Over the years, even while away working or living on his own, Briar was known to enjoy relaxing out in the bush, cutting down trees and later ‘chilling out’ by the fire, burning all the brush he had cleared. The farm is covered in the paths he cut and the number of these shows his ambitious nature. He loved to come home and be at the farm. Getting outside in the bush was part of what he looked forward to each time he visited. Beyond the pirate metal music he enjoyed, Briar was very talented and played drums, bass, and guitar, and experimented with the ocarina, (a type of flute), with songs he found in the game the Legend of Zelda. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his father Cory Hamilton of LeRoy, SK; his mother Ramona (née Mierau) Hamilton (Tim Fonstad) of Clavet, SK; Janine Hamilton (Brent Stadnick) of Saskatoon, SK; Derrick Hamilton of LeRoy, SK; grandmothers, Laureen Hamilton of LeRoy, SK, and Jeanette Mierau of Lanigan, SK; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Robert Hamilton and Harold Mierau. A family memorial service was held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the Hamilton Farm, LeRoy District, SK, with Rev. Jack Robson presiding. Terri Hamilton delivered the eulogy and Ramona Hamilton and Janine Hamilton offered a tribute. Memorial donations can be sent directly to the Humboldt & District SPCA, (PO Box 3942, Humboldt, SK, S0K 2A0), www.humboldtspca.com
