Daniel Loehr
October 8, 1927 – January 3, 2019

Daniel Loehr of Watson, SK passed away at the Humboldt District Hospital on Thursday, January 3, 2019. He was 91 years of age. Daniel Bernard Loehr was born in Humboldt, SK on October 8, 1927 to Arnold and Agnes (nee Heinen) Loehr. He grew up on the family farm south of St. Peter’s College, Muenster, SK and attended St Francis School just east of Muenster. He married Stella Koob, October 12, 1949, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Muenster. Dan and Stella remained on the family farm raising 11 children until 1971 when they moved to Watson after Daniel took the position as the manager of the Watson Credit Union. In his younger years, Daniel enjoyed playing violin in the St. Peter’s Orchestra as well as guitar for sing-a-longs at family gatherings. He picked up a passion for golfing after moving to Watson, playing almost daily up to last year. In his later years he also enjoyed the comradeship of getting together with his card playing buddies on a weekly basis, playing various poker games (all in fun). Dan constantly shared his political views with his brother Ed who had a similar perspective. His all-time political outlook was derived by listening to Mike Duffy “LOUD” (which could be heard even outside on the driveway) and #CNN #Trump. Daniel loved to connect with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He took tremendous pleasure in teasing the grandkids and they gave him lots of bragging rights as he loved to talk about them to whomever would listen. Daniel was heavily involved in community groups and activities in the area over the years. To name a “few”: Humboldt Agricultural Society, Muenster Credit Union, Board of the Saskatchewan Credit Union League, co-founder of Humboldt Animal Breeders Co-Op, president of Federation of Breeders Co-Operative. 73 years with the Knights of Columbus, Chairman of the Sacred Heart Parish. Treasurer of the Watson Fighting Saints, Chairman of the Neighborhood Improvement Committee responsible for building the new arena, Treasurer of the Watson Arena board, McNabb Regional Park, Watson Lions Club, Alderman of the Town of Watson, Chairman of the Watson Union Hospital and chairman of Watson School Board. Since July 2006, as a representative for the St. Peter’s College Loehr Family Bursary Endowment, Daniel has been presenting the Bursary Award to a student meeting the criteria required for receiving the said award at the St. Peter’s College Annual Awards Banquet. The award was established from a sale of a tractor jointly owned by the descendants of the John and Catherine Loehr family. The District of Saskatchewan Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus honoured Daniel by naming their class of new members the “Sir Knight Daniel Loehr Class” at the May 4, 2013 exemplification. On May 15, 2016, Daniel also was recognized for his many years of service by the Watson Golf Club who named the clubhouse the “Daniel Loehr Club House” in his honour.
