Darlene Muir
February 24, 1942 - March 22, 2018

Darlene Mary Muir, 76 years, of St. Joseph’s Home, Saskatoon passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Home, Saskatoon. Darlene was born on a farm near Scrip, Saskatchewan to William and Jesse (nee Marshall) Muir on February 24, 1942. Darlene attended Sigstad School just a few miles from the farm. She then went to Quill Lake for a few years and finished her education at Outlook Bible College. She then completed her Teaching Degree at the Saskatoon Teachers College. Darlene would later teach for many years at the elementary schools in Quill Lake, Hendon and Clair where she touched the lives of many children.
Darlene married Stuart Duguid and moved to the farm near Quill Lake. They were married for 26 years and were blessed with four children Jeff, Craig, Lance, and Julie. Darlene continued to live on the farm for a number of years before moving into Quill Lake. The Grandchildren have fond memories of visiting Grammie at her house by the creek, where they played in the garden shed that was converted to a play house, caught frogs and minnows and walk uptown for a treat. As her health deteriorated, she then moved to St. Joseph home in Saskatoon where she would spend her last years making new friends, telling jokes and sharing her “little gifts”.
Darlene was very special to many people, some very kind words that show Darlene’s true personality were said to the family “We enjoyed your Mom’s phone calls, personal Birthday songs, cards and of course our girls received their Darlene pop for many years. She was always there to lift our spirits and to make us laugh. She never gave up on anyone ... She was friends with so many people that were ignored or considered unacceptable or unapproachable ... A very Pure Heart. She will always be an inspiration to us.”
Darlene loved music; she sang and danced whenever she could. She had a very lovable and joking spirit. Darlene also loved to travel, one of her most memorable trips being going to Scotland July and August 1963, with her sister Heather, to tour and stay with her Aunt and visit other Muir and Marshall relatives still living there. Darlene and Heather also took the train from Scotland into London. She would talk about the trip for years. Darlene was a legion member and also very active in the community, easily making friends with everyone she encountered. Darlene will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children, and eight grandchildren: Jeff (Angela Chynn) Duguid and children Mackenzie and Cassidy of Quill Lake; Craig (Koralee) Dugiud and children James and Anna Rose of Gibbons,AB; Lance (Gina) Duguid and children Ethan, Halle and Jackson of Martensville; Julie Duguid and daughter Katrina of Saskatoon. Darlene will also be survived by her three siblings Douglas (Yvonne) Muir, Margret (Bill) Dowling, and Heather (Robin) Hannah, and numerous nieces and nephews; also by her ex-husband Stuart Duguid, and sister-in-law Helen Duguid. Darlene was predeceased by her parents William and Jesse Muir. The Funeral Service for Darlene was held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Quill Lake Community Hall, officiated by Rev. Al Hingley. Interment took take place in the Quill Lake Cemetery. Memorial donations in Darlene’s memory may be made to the Mental Health & Addiction Services c/o Royal University Hospital Foundation, or Canadian Diabetes Association.
