Dennis Hein
March 8, 1933 – August 24, 2015

Dennis Edwin Hein, 82 years of Lanigan and formerly of St. Brieux, passed away on Monday August 24th, 2015 with his family at his side. Dennis was born to August and Emma Hein at Hein’s Beach-now known as Wee-Too Beach- on Last Mountain Lake, on March 8th, 1933. When Dennis was three, the Hein family moved to a farm seven miles north of Bethune. Dennis attended Goldridge School and completed grade 8. Dennis’ dad taught him the carpentry trade at the age of twelve. After his schooling he helped his father farm and fish commercially for several years. Then, in 1954, Dennis started farming on his own. During the summer months between 1959 and 1962, he also worked for a road construction crew. In 1962, he met Madeline (Judy) Kajner. Judy had been working for Edith and Pete Gehl in Bethune.   On March 3rd, 1962, Dennis and Judy were wed in St. Brieux, Judy’s hometown, and farmed in the Bethune District until 1966. They moved their young family to Sonningdale, Saskatchewan, for a year, where they farmed and tried their hand at bee farming. In October 1967, Dennis decided to quit farming on his own and the family moved to St. Brieux, where he worked as a hired hand for Raymond Assie. Raymond also employed Dennis at the Marshall Wells store that he owned. It was after working with Raymond at the store that Dennis began managing the Co-op grocery store. Dennis managed the Co-op until 1975, when he began his own construction business. He and Judy and their family also ran the St. Brieux Regional Park during the summer months between 1975 and 1985. During the same period, while Dennis was working hard on his construction business, Judy and the children served as custodians of St. Brieux School. Dennis and Judy were both active in the St. Brieux community. In 1982, after trying hard to keep the construction business going, Dennis and Judy decided to close the construction shop and Dennis went back to managing the Co-op Grocery Store, and the Petroleum/Bulk Store. In later years, both Dennis and Judy were employed with Bourgault Industries until their retirement. In 1988, they winterized their cabin and moved out to the lake, where they lived until they sold the cabin in April 2010 and moved to Lanigan, Saskatchewan. For the last few years camping and fishing in the summer months with family and friends have been one of Dennis’ and Judy’s greatest pleasures. Most recently they spent a month at Last Mountain Lake. Dennis will be loving remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 53 years Judy Hein of Lanigan; their six children and 10 grandchildren: Delilah (Paul) Aubin and sons Ryan and Nolan of Lanigan, Wendy (Wayne) Welsch of St. Brieux, Judith (Kevin) Woolsey of Rimby, AB and children Courtney and Matthew, both of Red Deer, AB, Colleen (Kirk) Wassmer and daughters Emma and Anna of Didsbury, AB, Derwin Hein and daughter Kaitlyn of Airdrie, AB, and James (Tricia) Hein and sons Samuel, Alexander, and William of Fort McMurray, AB; brother Ron (Opal) Hein; sisters-and-brothers-in-law: Virginia Hein, Alice Hein, Walter Schaffer, and Glen Groff; Judy’s family Franklin (Cecile) Kajner and Michael (Irene) Kajner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
