Edward Zens
March 9, 1918 - April 25, 2017

Mr. Edward Zens of Good Shepherd Villa, Prince Albert, SK passed away at his residence on Tuesday, April 25, 2017.  He was 99 years of age.  Edward Nicholas Zens was born on March 9, 1918 to Peter and Annie (nee Schmidt) Zens in the Carmel District, SK.  He was raised on a farm outside of Carmel where he helped his dad farm.  He married Marie Walters on February 3, 1948 in Carmel and they made their home on a farm in the Carmel District.  In 1953 they moved to the Melfort District where they farmed and continued to reside until retirement.  They eventually moved off the farm and relocated to Saskatoon for four years and then to Good Shepherd Villa in Prince Albert.  Dad loved to create and build things, and also kept busy doing leather work.  He was the original MacGyvor, being famous for making something out of nothing.  Dad also loved gardening and making wine.  Edward will be lovingly remembered by his three children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Lorne (Margaret) Zens of Ottawa and family Michael, Danielle (Mike) Vieira and daughter Sophia, Angela (Aron) Huizing and daughter Ava; Larry Zens of Calgary and family Brenden, Renata (Ryan) Galarneau and son James; Debbie (Gregg) Hampton of Okotoks, Alberta and family Jennifer (Tyler) Graham and their children Jace and Blake, Stephanie (Steve) Fennelly and daughter Anastasia, Kristina (Dan) Harris and son Holden; and brother-in-law Max Walters of Red Deer, AB.  Edward was predeceased by his wife Marie (nee Walters) Zens; parents Peter and Annie (Schmidt) Zens; five sisters; and one brother.  The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, SK on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Greg Smith-Windsor.  Others taking part were: Brenden Zens, crossbearer; Stephanie Fennelly, scripture reader; Jennifer Graham, intentions; Kristina Harris and Renata Galarneau, giftbearers; Lorne Zens, eulogist; Renata Galarneau, memorial table attendant; Lorne Zens, urnbearer.  Music ministry was provided by director, Loretta Schugmann with organist Dolores Hinz and members of St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt, SK.  Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Augustine Parish Centre or St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery Fund.
