Else Coffyne
December 12, 1926 – September 26, 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of Else Birthe  (nee Nielsen) Coffyne of Quill Lake, SK announce her death on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK.  She was 89 years of age.  Else was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 12, 1926 to Niels and Karen ( nee Larson) Nielsen.  She came to Canada with her mother at the age of two.  Her mother later married Emil Valette from Spiritwood, SK.  This union led to five sisters, one brother, two step-brothers and one step-sister.  Else attended school at North Creek School.  Else’s various occupations included being a cook, switchboard operator, housekeeper and a waitress.  Else married Jack Coffyne on April 1, 1953 in Vancouver, BC.  Jack worked as a prospector for Cominco until his death in 1961 while they were living in Thunder Bay  ON. Gary was born in 1959 and Richard was born in 1961, five months after Jack’s death.  Else and her boys moved many times over the next ten years until settling in Quill Lake, SK in 1972.  Else’s favourite past times included reading and writing poetry, attending events, socializing with friends, curling, playing cards and travelling.  She met countless friends while travelling by bus, train and often hitchhiking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren playing crib, crokinole, reading, playing cards or just fussing over them and their friends.  Else lived next door to the playground for over 40 years and enjoyed generations of kids coming over for ice cream, a drink, or to use the bathroom.  Else had the kindest and most gentle spirit.  She had a non-judgemental demeanor and always looked for the best in everyone.  She didn’t gossip and lived by the golden rule “ If you can’t say something nice about someone, say nothing at all.”  Else will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two sons and four grandchildren:  Gary Coffyne; and Richard (Olivia) Coffyne and family, Cienna (Mark) Magnusson, Jaedon Elder, Alexa Longmuir, and Hudson Coffyne; three sisters:  Anne (Bud) Watson, Betty Jones, and Margareth MacLeod; two sisters-in-law:  Elizabeth Valette  and Yvonne Valette; brother-in-law- Bud Watson; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.  She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Coffyne; father, Niels Nielsen; mother, Karen (Valette) Reichelt; step-fathers:  Emilien Valette, Reinhold Reichelt; three sisters:  Alice Bauman, Kirsten Stevens, and Emilienne Picken; three brothers:  Marcel Valette, Mitchel Valette, and Camil Valette; brothers-in-law:  Dr. James Jones, Hugh MacLeod, George Bauman, Dr. Burton Carlock, and Ray Stevens; and by sister-in-law, Alida Valette.  The Funeral Service for Else was held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Quill Lake Community Hall officiated by Rev. Al Hingley.  Else will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and many friends of all ages.
