Gerald Herman
January 13, 1944 – June 24, 2017

Gerry passed away at the age of 73 on June 24, 2017 at St. Paul’s Hospital after two years of failing health. His quiet acceptance of numerous health struggles attests to his strength of character and personality.
Gerry was born January 13, 1944 to Constantine and Ethel (nee Streitenberger) Hermann in Bruno, where he grew up as part of a large family on the homestead. Following his education, he moved to Humboldt where he met Arlene Daniels. They were married on April 4, 1964 and were blessed with three children – Craig, Lisa and Terry.
Gerry was a journeyman mechanic. Early in his career he managed the Shell service station in Humboldt followed by a 39 year career at PCS Lanigan from which he retired in 2013. Gerry loved working at the potash mine. For many years he could also be found in his own garage fixing vehicles. Gerry made friends of all he worked with, young and old. His co-workers became a second family and it was difficult for Gerry to say good-bye when he retired.
Gerry loved country music, football, hockey, poker with his brothers, and sharing a beer with friends. Above all, Gerry loved his family and enjoyed many precious years camping, fishing and relaxing at Wakaw Lake. Gerry was most happy when visitors came over for a laugh and a fireside visit. He had a generous heart and always saw the positive in people and in situations.
Left to remember are his children Craig (Ann) Hermann and sons Blake and Tyler, all of Saskatoon; Lisa Kleiter (Mike) and Joelle Melnychuk (Brad) and daughter Kinlee, and Kristen Kleiter (Chad), all of Saskatoon; Terry Hermann of Humboldt and son Matthew Poppel (Angel) and children Silas and Peyton of Saskatoon; his brothers and sisters: Loreen Weyland of Humboldt, Almira McKitrick of Burnaby, BC, Annette (Ron) Joestl of Calgary, Larry Hermann of Saskatoon, Al (Bernadette) Hermann of Saskatoon and Annabelle Oddie of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gerry was predeceased by his wife Arlene who passed away in November, 2015; his parents, Constantine and Ethel Hermann; and sisters and brothers: Albinus Hermann, Erika Hermann, Demaris (Mickey) Finn, Elaine Hermann and Herbert Hermann (both in infancy); and brothers-in-law, Theodore Weyland and Bob Oddie.
The Prayer Service for Gerry was held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, led by Deacon Michael Hall. The Funeral Mass was offered on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Fr. Joseph Salihu. Interment followed in St. Augustine Parish Cemetery.
