Imelda “Mel” Mamer
October 9, 1928 – December 15, 2016

The death of Mrs. Imelda “Mel” Bertha (nee Stroeder) Mamer of St. Ann’s Senior Citizens Village, Saskatoon,  SK, (and formerly of Lake Lenore, SK), occurred at her residence on Thursday, December 15, 2016.  Mel, the sixth child of Lawrence and Clara (nee Skalicky) Stroeder was born on Tuesday, October 9, 1928, at Marysburg, SK.    She attained her formal education at Schuler School and also worked very hard on the farm (stooking with the hired men at the age of 12).  On August 26, 1947, Mel married Vincent Mamer.  They began their life together on the Mamer homestead near Lake Lenore.  Their union was blessed with seven children.  Family and friends were always welcome at the Mamer farm, where Sundays were for visiting and not for work.  Mel’s faith was always on the forefront for her.  She would take the family to Mass every day before school.  The rosary was always held close to her with a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin.  As the family grew, you would always see Mel and Vince accompanying the children on their various sporting activities.  Imelda was an accomplished seamstress and adept at most crafts such as knitting, crocheting and embroidery.  As well, she was an amazing baker and decorated beautiful wedding cakes.    Mel really enjoyed entertaining friends and relatives, and playing cards, especially Buck.  After Vince died in 2000, Imelda continued to have an open house for visitors.  She thoroughly enjoyed being visited by grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.  Mel had a sharp mind and she would know the most interesting facts about the Stroeders and Mamers.  In June of 2015, she fell and broke her hip.  After recovery, Imelda moved into St. Ann’s Senior Citizens Village.  Instantly, all of the staff knew her and her keen sense of humour.  She had a big heart, and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.   Imelda will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her seven children:  Jerry (Helen) Mamer of Saskatoon; Rose (Jim) Danyluk of Meadow Lake; Pat (Larry) Schrader of Regina; Perry (Bonnie) Mamer of Carrot River; Ann (Rod) Schubert of Regina; Greg (Paula) Mamer of Wilkie; and Sue (Ernie) Dauvin of Saskatoon; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, George (Inez) Stroeder; three sisters:  Sr. Mary Magdeline of Madison, Wisconsin; Sally (Richard) Muench of Muenster; and Mary (Jim) Lavery of Richmond, BC; sister-in-law, Marge Stroeder of Humboldt; brother-in-law, Roman Sarauer of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent Mamer; parents, Lawrence and Clara (nee Skalicky) Stroeder; five brothers:  Victor (Ellie) Stroeder, Edward (Anne) Stroeder, Bernard (Mildred) Stroeder, Peter (Bernice) Stroeder, Joseph Stroeder; and by one sister, Mary Claire (John) Kessnick.  The Prayer Service for Imelda was held at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, Saskatoon, on Monday, December 19, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., led by David Smith.  Others taking part were:  Jennifer Mamer, crossbearer;  Courtney Wessing, scripture reader; Ann Schubert, intentions; and Perry Mamer, eulogist.  The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, Lake Lenore, on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at 1:00 p.m.  Others taking part were:  Isaiah Mamer, crossbearer; Marc Schubert and Ben Schubert, altar servers; Rose Danyluk and Pat Schrader, scripture readers; Sue Mamer-Dauvin, intentions and communion minister; Stacey Mamer and Mara Schrader, giftbearers; Rachel Mamer, soloist; and Denise Yeager, memorial table attendant.   Pallbearers were Roderick A.
