John “Jack” Raymond Sutherland
September 24, 1931 – August 6, 2018

John Raymond Sutherland (Jack) died on Monday, August 6, 2018 after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Dan and Mildred of Heward, his oldest sister Vivian Thomson, his brother in law Michael Chicilo and his nieces Maryellen Carlson, and Lauri Daoust and nephew Darren Daoust. Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Louise, his four children, 8 grandchildren and one great granddaughter: Karen (Trevor Herriot), Kate, Jonathon, Sage (Deacon Yathon and Charlotte) and Maia; Kent (Candace Sutherland) Benjamin and Adrienne; Kathryn Ann (Greg Corrigan) Reed and Cooper; and Kim Adine; His sister Doreen Chicilo and her children Martin (Sharon Lee) and his son Farley and Moira (Cam McLeod) and their daughter Ella; His sisters-in-law Marjorie Eisenkirch and her children Barry, Blair (Karen), Brent and Shannon (Nick) as well as Joyce Daoust and her son Carey (Janice), her daughter-in-law Leanne as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren who were included as part of his family. Jack received his degree in Engineering in 1953 at the University of Saskatchewan. Jack was proud to serve the people of Saskatchewan during his long career with Saskatchewan Transportation and was privileged to act as Deputy Minister in the years up to his retirement. After his retirement curling, with his special team Jack, Norm and Neil, became his passion. As we all know Jack was always a dedicated, ever optimistic, Riders fan. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and Regina Rotary Club. Jack dedicated many hours volunteering at Early Learning Centre, Marian Centre, Christ the King Church Parish Council, Catholic Family Service and Pasqua Hospital Pastoral Care. Jack, and Louise, were proud to have the opportunity to provide the facility for the first Second Stage House for Battered Women in Regina. Jack was always available and eager to help his children with maintenance and construction projects in their homes. Retiring in the nineties Jack and Louise spent almost half of each year on their farm near Lanigan. Jack loved gardening, tree planting, feeding the birds and maintaining the large acreage. Louise and her children want to thank the Doctors especially Dr Stewart McMillan and Dr Alanna Kilmurray and the Nurses and support staff at both Pasqua Palliative Unit and Grace Hospice. The Funeral Mass for Jack was held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 3239 Garnet St. Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers donations in honor of Jack may be directed to Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina S4R 8P6 306.543.0655 or Hospitals of Regina Foundation specifying Pasqua Hospital Palliative Unit 3A.
