Jeanne Rucks
October 5, 1933 – September 1, 2018

We, the family of Jeanne Rucks, sadly announce her death on Saturday, September 1, 2018, due to Alzheimer’s disease. Mom died at Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan, SK, where she had lived for the past eight years. Jeanne, the youngest of nine children, was born on October 5, 1933, at Lanigan to Lorne and Addie (nee Marshall) Thompson. Except for a few years when she lived in Saskatoon, SK, and worked as a telephone operator, she lived her whole life in Lanigan. In 1956, Jeanne married Alfred Rucks. They celebrated 49 years of marriage before Alfred died in 2005. Five children were born to their union: Ron (Carole), Kathy (Clay) Brander, Tim (Kim), Ellen (Morley Strong), and Bev (Doug) Ehalt. She was also blessed with nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. In addition to these family members, Jeanne is survived by one sister, one sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandson, Danen Ehalt, in 2017.

Jeanne was very musical and enjoyed all kinds of music. She would spend many hours in her Music Room listening to records. She also loved to sit down at the organ and play. Mom had a beautiful alto voice which she contributed to the Lutheran Church choir, and to a Trio with sisters Norma Winter and Elaine Greve. Jeanne also loved to curl and she had a reputation as a skip who was hard to beat! Mom collected antiques and liked nothing better than spending the day sitting at an auction at the Town Hall. Monday nights, Mom and Dad could be found playing Bingo with their regular group of friends. She was lucky - not just at Bingo, but at the casino too. And the first year that the Roughriders held their lottery she won a new car. It wasn't long before she had the car decked out in everything "Tweety". She belonged to a Bridge Club and loved getting together with them to socialize. However, Jeanne will probably be best remembered by the people of Lanigan for her many years working at Canada Post, retiring as Post Master in 1998.

We will miss her beautiful smile, her sarcastic sense of humour, her motherly advice and her fried turkey. We love you.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date. For those wishing, memorial donations in memory of Jeanne Rucks may be sent to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan (#301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3X1) or to Central Parkland Lodge (P.O. Box 459, Lanigan, SK, S0K 2M0).
