Laverne Gasper
June 8, 1933 - January 6, 2016

The death of Mr. Laverne Gasper, 82 years, of Bruno occurred on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at the family farm in Bruno, Saskatchewan. Laverne Leo Ralph Gasper was born on the Gasper family homestead to Anton and Agnes (nee Gelinski) Gasper on June 8, 1933. He was the third eldest of six children.  As a young child “Verne” attended nearby St. Quinton School with his siblings. Throughout his childhood Verne helped on the farm, and after leaving school he remained on the farm, working alongside his father and his brothers.  Following their father Anton’s passing, Verne and his brother Gerald took over the Gasper family farm, and remained actively involved in the farm until their deaths.  Verne continued to live on the Gasper family homestead until the date of his passing.  Verne enjoyed socializing, he regularly attended the Bruno Friendship Center to play cards and visit with friends. During his younger years, Verne was an avid snowmobiler and he enjoyed snowmobile outings with friends and neighbours.  When Verne was at home, he liked to spend time watching sports on TSN, and watching old reruns of his favourite Western movies and TV shows on DejaVu. Verne loved dogs and always kept a pet; his dogs were well loved and definitely more than a bit spoiled! Verne is survived by his two brothers Edgar Gasper of Regina and Ronald Gasper of Marquis, and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Anton and Agnes Gasper, two brothers Gerald Gasper and Raymond Gasper, one sister Marjorie Beckwermert, and one nephew Bradley Gasper. The Funeral Mass for Verne was held on Saturday April 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm, from St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, Bruno, SK celebrated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Interment followed in the Parish Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Verne’s memory may be made to the Bruno Friendship Centre or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
