Eldine Sunderland

March 25, 1928 – November 21, 2016

The death of Mr. Eldine Sunderland, 88 years of Quill Lake, occurred on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Humboldt District Hospital.  Eldine was born on March 25, 1928 to Charles Simpson and Hattie Belle (nee Haggard) Sunderland in the Gardenia district. Eldine grew up with a family of 7 sisters and 2 brothers.   He helped on the farm and attended Gardenia School for 6 years.  In 1944, his parents moved into the Village of Quill Lake.  During the years of 1943 – 1947, he worked out at various jobs including the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and the livery stable.  In the spring of 1947, he purchased a breaking outfit and broke land for himself and did some custom work in the surrounding district.  In 1950, he started to farm full time with his dad in the Gardenia district.  Upon his dad’s passing, he farmed on his own until recently, his son Neil partnered with him.  On July 8, 1972 he married the love of his life, Eva. They resided in the Village of Quill Lake and had two sons, Donald and Neil. He enjoyed many things like reading, music, and playing the violin and having jam sessions with the family. His faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of the Quill Lake Evangelical Free Church and served as a trustee for many years.  Eldine will be forever missed by his wife, Eva of 44 years and sons Donald of Quill Lake and Neil of Humboldt; his sisters Jennie Summach of Sydney, BC, Faye Erickson of Hope, BC, and Loretta Young of Summerland, BC; sister-in-law Dorothy Sunderland of Saskatoon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Hattie; his 2 brothers and 4 sisters: Edeth (Norma) Sunderland, Mervyn Sunderland, Iola (Eldine) Welsh, Eula (Bert) Elphinstone, Mereta (Ernest) Wood, and Dwade (Armand) Coppens; and his brothers-in-law Ray Summach, Elmer Erickson, and Everett Young. The Funeral Service for Eldine was held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 2:00pm at Quill Lake Community Legion Hall, officiated by Pastor Bill Dyck and Pastor Ernie Budd. Interment followed in the Quill Lake Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Eldine Sunderland’s memory may be made to the The Gideons; Quill Lake Cemetery or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
