Mr. Johnnie Schatz
May 13, 1929 – April 7, 2018

The family of Johnnie Schatz, 88 years, sadly announce his peaceful passing on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Foyer d’ Youville in Gravelbourg, surrounded by his children.  Johnnie was born on the family farm near Elstow, SK to Kasmir and Lena (nee Leier) Schatz on May 13, 1929.  He is the 9th child from a family of 14.  In 1946 Johnnie started working for the CP Railway then in 1948 he was transferred to Humboldt, where he met Monica Kilcher.  On September 10, 1951 Johnnie and Monica were married; they spent 64 years together.  It didn’t take long for them to start a family that included six children. He was involved in his community with the Jay C’s in Humboldt and the Lions in Lanigan.  He enjoyed curling and golfing.  Over the years he worked for various companies:  Bowman Bros., Ingham Industries, Esso, Applied Power, Bumper to Bumper and Acklands.  Johnnie and Monica retired in Lafleche, SK where they followed their grandchildren’s activities such as hockey, ball and school sports.  He also enjoyed baking, and was famous for his flapper pie and Christmas marshmallows.  Johnnie also enjoyed woodworking. He loved music, and in the 70’s Johnnie belonged to a band called “The Melodees” where he sang and played the drums.  Johnnie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his six children and 15 grandchildren:  Deb (Roger) Haryett and family Carter and Leisl (Kal) Lefebvre;   Laurie (Deric) Cook and son David (Angie) Ross ;   Fern (Ian) Currie and family Daron Dumanski, Dan Dumanski, Matthew (Warren), Ryan (Trina), Courtney (Mike) Warman;  Terry (Debbie) Schatz and family Sara (Dax), Tanner (Jenelle)  and Stacie (Louis) Stilling;  Dean (Debbie) Schatz and family Megan (Jay) Hickson and Jenna (Zac) ; and Tammy (Brett) Wilson and family Matthew (Brenda) and Emily (Evan); 11 great grandchildren; four brothers and sisters: Loretta, Loreen, Bruno and Bunny and members of the Kilcher family. Johnnie was predeceased by his wife Monica Schatz on December 11, 2015; parents Kasmir and Lena Schatz, brothers and sisters: Anne, Rose, Minnie, Judy, Charlie, Agnes, Tony, Margaret, Ed; and great grandson Jeffrey.  A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. from St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church Humboldt, celebrated by Fr.
