Mrs. Mary Crook
April 26, 1927 - June 13, 2018

CROOK – Mary Ann (nee Schedlosky) Crook 91 years, of Humboldt passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Humboldt District Hospital surrounded by her family. Mary was born on April 26, 1927 to Joseph and Mary (nee Ratch) Schedlosky in the RM of Wolverine. She attended Deer Lake School until grade eight. Following that, she worked as a domestic helper for a family in Saskatchewan and then Manitoba. On a return trip to Saskatchewan she met Philip Crook while visiting her sister Agnes. They were married on February 3, 1947 at St. Scholastica Church. Mary moved to Philip’s home where they began their life together and were blessed with seven children. Mary had massive gardens that she nurtured to fill her cellar with preserves for the long winter months. She also planted a variety of fruit trees to complement the vegetable gardens. Mary was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed the new catalogues that arrived each season as she used them for ideas to sew new garments for herself and her children. She skillfully reproduced those garments. She was a very talented woman who could make quilts, knit, crochet and do carpentry duties as needed. Mary was very musical and could play several instruments. She took a hands-on approach to all aspects of farm life but raising exotic birds such as peacocks was her favourite. Mary also raised geese and ducks. Mary and Philip loved to socialize and often had dance parties at their home where family and friends would gather to have fun. Sunday was the day of devotion and family time. There were also many Sundays where the family would go on day fishing trips to lakes in the area. Mary was a very faithful woman who prayed her daily rosary to the Virgin Mary, sometimes more than once. She was a very giving, sharing, hospitable lady, who always made sure everyone was fed and treated well when they visited her home. Mary wouldn’t waste anything; she was very resourceful in finding a way to make sure everything was used to its full potential. Mary was a very strong independent hard-working woman who spent 70 years on her farm and spent the last year living with her daughter Donna and her family. Family was number one to Mary and she was always happy to have them near. Mary will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: KATHERINE Thacyk of Watson and family Lorri (Dean Alexander) Thacyk of Regina and children Tate, Erin and Ben, Cheryl (Greg) Matrovolgyi of Regina and children Jordanna, Caleb and Lucas, Glenn (Leanne) Thacyk of Watson and son Ryker; Ryan (Meagan) Thacyk of Regina and children Alexia and Ethan and Randal Thacyk (Jen McKnight) of Regina and son William; SANDRA (Wayne) Shaw of Lake Lenore and family Karen (Doug) Voldeng of Naciam and children Tianna (Jared Saretsky), Logan and Orrin, Adam (Kim) Shaw of Lake Lenore and son Dylan; Crystal Shaw (Mike Puetz) of Lake Lenore and children Brandon, Britney and Ashley, Travis (Kayla) Shaw of Bruno and daughters Paige and Trinity and Jared (Renée) Shaw of Warman and children Preston, Isabella, Finnley, Hunter and Hayden; DONNA (Noel Lizee) Walby – Lizee and sons Jesse Walby and Owen Walby all of Annaheim; CHARLIE’S family: Irene Crook of Naicam and family David Crook of Saskatoon, Kyle Crook (Polly Pendle) of Naicam and Dale Crook of Naicam; DAVID (Jane) Crook of Wynyard and family Clayton Crook of Wynyard, Kevan Crook of Yorkton and children Logan and Katina, Bryan Crook of Regina and Shannon Crook of Yorkton and children Davis, Shaelynn and Hunter; EDWARD’S family Lacia Crook of Edmonton, Alberta and Shaina (Cody) McCalister of Lantzville, BC and children Xander and Liv; EUGENE (Donna) Crook and family Phillip (Lori) Crook and children Brooklyn, Alyssa, Preston and Carson; Ryan McLeod and daughter Jessie and Teri Crook all of Humboldt; brothers and sisters: Agnes Crook of Saskatoon, Eugene Schedlosky of Saskatoon and Marcella Fahl of Prince Albert; brother-in-law Bill Fraess of Linden, AB and sisters-in-law: Veronica Schedlosky of Humboldt, and Ivy McLeod of Saskatoon; numerous nieces nephews and members of the Crook and Bells families.
