The death of Mr. Nick Bunko, 88 years , of Humboldt occurred on Friday, August 28, 2015. Nick was born to John and Alice (nee Demko) on December 17, 1926. He was the the 8th child out of 10. Nick went to Mount Carmel school. He farmed with his Dad on the homestead at Mount Carmel until his parents moved to town in the fall of 1957. Nick's dad John Bunko donated a portion of the land to the church which is still used by St. Peter's Abbey for pilgrimage every year. Nick attended every single pilgrimage until his illness prevented it. On September 29, 1957, Nick married Elizabeth Remenda of Bruno, Sk. Together they lived and farmed on the homestead for 18 years, before they moved to Humboldt in 1974. Nick continued to farm from town and also worked for the town of Humboldt for 12 years. Nick loved to play baseball. He played for the Carmel and Fulda ball teams for 15 years. He always had time for a quick pick up game whenever a team needed him. His team was inducted into the Sask. Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010. Later in life he enjoyed fishing and camping. Liz and Nick spent many a weekend on the boat waiting for the “big one”. The grandchildren also enjoyed fishing with Gedo, who patiently untangled all their lines. Nick and Liz traveled to many places in the world, but Hawaii was one of their favorites. Nick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his loving family. He is survived by wife ELIZABETH; and four daughters: DEBI (Terry Bokshowan) and their children Cody (fiancé Caitlin) and Brittany (Jason Jessop), SANDRA; BRENDA (Art Lorentzen); KIM (Cal Theisen) and their children Brianne (Ashton Eaton) and Jessica; 2 brothers and 1 sister: Matt (Myrna) Bunko, Bill Bunko and Helen Fay.
