Philip Freistadt
August 6, 1929 – December 30, 2018

Philip was born on August 6th, 1929 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Humboldt to Gottlieb and Frances (nee Hiebert) Freistadt. He grew up on the farm and received his education in Carmel School. At the age of 13 he lost the sight of his left eye due to an accident while playing hockey at school. In his younger years he and two of his cousins would spend the winters up north working in the lumber camps. Later he began farming his uncles land as well as working for the Department of Highways until his retirement. He was an avid curler, winning many trophies and plaques. He also enjoyed everything hockey and watched many games. He spent most of his life in Carmel, but did eventually move into Humboldt. Once he was no longer able to care for himself he moved into a care home in Bruno. From there he went to a higher care facility in Middle Lake, then due to dementia, he went into St. Mary's Villa in Humboldt. He passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2018. He leaves behind his sister Julie Froess, a sister-in-law Audrey Freistadt, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn and husband Peter Zerff, brother Arnold and wife Bernice Freistadt, brother Eugene and wife Mary Freistadt, sister Eleanor Freistadt in 1955, brother David and his first wife Olivine Freistadt. A Graveside Funeral Service was held on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, officiated by Fr. Peter Olisa. Memorial donation’s in Philip’s memory may be directed to St. Mary’s Villa Foundation.
