Ronald Eckert

The death of Ronald (Ron) Eckert of Humboldt, Saskatchewan occurred at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, SK on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. He was 76 years of age. Ronald was born on June 14, 1940 in Bruno, SK to Henry and Mary (nee Langhorst) Eckert. He was the oldest of seven children. Growing up, his family moved around a lot before settling in Humboldt, where he graduated Grade 12. He then furthered his education at SIAST in Moose Jaw, graduating as a Journeyman Electrician in 1967. He loved to go to barn dances where he met his life long partner Clara. They married on June 11, 1966 in Humboldt. They were blessed with two daughters and four grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Ron’s hobbies included golfing, fishing, dancing, camping, playing cards, bowling, going to the casinos and watching sports. Anyone who worked with him would agree that Ron took great pride in his work as an electrician for the past 50 years. Ron is lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years Clara (nee Eckl) Eckert; his children Tracy (Richard) Ludwig and their children Wayde and Miley of Bruno, SK; Kimberly (Miles) Waldbillig and their children Taylor and Mason of Humboldt SK. He is also survived by his siblings: Irene (George) Galambos of St. Benedict, SK; Sylvestor (Donna) Eckert of Saskatoon SK; Dennis (Wanda) Eckert of Winnipeg MB; Jane (Myron) Kennedy of Humboldt, SK; Marylee (Mark) Zimmer of Humboldt, SK; In-laws Lydia Eckl of Humboldt, SK; and Marcella (Elmer) Borstmeyer of Bruno, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ronald was predeceased by his parents Henry and Mary (nee Langhorst) Eckert; his brother Clifford Eckert; and numerous in-laws. The Funeral Mass for Ron was offered from St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Joseph Salihu. Others taking part were: Dan Steiner, crossbearer; Mary Lou Weiers and Janet Jurgens, scripture readers; Linda Prokosch, intentions; Taylor Waldbillig, Mason Waldbillig, and Miley Ludwig, giftbearers; Lydia Eckl and Mary Draude, memorial table attendants; Carol Fleischhacker, eulogist. Music ministry was provided by Loretta Schugmann, director; Dolores Hinz, organist; and members of St.Augustine Parish Choir. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Ron’s life.” Active pallbearers were: Mike Hergott, Kyle Hergott, Cliff Kiefer, Wes Bilodeah, Chris Hamilton, and Geoff Strueby. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt, SK. Memorial donations may be directed to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
