Ruth Amilia Janzen
October 4, 1932 – August 17, 2017

Ruth Amilia (nee Wrennick) Janzen of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, passed away at her residence on Thursday, August 17, 2017.  She was 84 years of age.  Ruth was born on October 4, 1932, to Louis and Jean (nee Coe) Wrennick, which was a joy to be had as it was the same day as her mother’s birthday.  Ruth was born during the “Dirty 30’s”, when transportation was mostly by horse and buggy.  She also had a sister Dorothy, a brother Gordon, and a half-sister Mary Olson (deceased).  As a young girl Ruth was employed in restaurants in Melfort as a waitress and cooks helper, where she was known to be a very hard worker.  Ruth had a daughter and in 1956, she married Pete Janzen.  They lived on a farm 14 miles north of Porcupine Plain, SK, where they raised their children, Margaret, Ken, Linda and Gary.  The family moved a few times and eventually settled in Saskatoon, SK.  Another son, Robert Frank Janzen was born to them; Ruth said he was an afterthought, but one that brought her much joy.  Ruth loved all her children and always tried to do things above and beyond her ability.  Her life changed greatly in 1990, when her son Robert was involved in a fatal accident when he was only 18 years old.  That same year, Ruth and Pete moved to Humboldt. Ruth’s mom had been dealing with Alzheimers disease during that time and passed away in 1991.  More sorrow touched Ruth when her husband Pete lost his battle with cancer in 1996.  Three years later, Ruth had to undergo a triple bypass in her heart.  She was very grateful for the help she received from Ken and Linda, who lived nearby.  Some of the things Ruth enjoyed were tending to her garden and flowers, cooking, knitting, playing cards, browsing at the Good Neighbour Store, going to yard sales with her sister Dorothy and niece Angelica, and driving her car.  More than anything, she loved spending time with her children and their families.  In 2011, Ruth had a hip replacement.  After a lengthy stay in the hospital in Saskatoon, she returned to Humboldt.  Ruth’s memory and asthma continued to worsen.  That was yet another traumatic time in her life.  Linda took care of her as much as possible until it became necessary to be placed in assisted living in the Villa.  Ruth was hospitalized again and was reassessed to Level 4.  For a brief time, she resided at Bethany Pioneer Village at Middle Lake.  Then, in April of 2012, Ruth became a resident of St. Mary’s Villa, her home until the present.  Ruth will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by four children:  Margaret Andris; Ken (Shirley) Janzen; Linda Massé; and Gary (Rhonda) Janzen; grandchildren; great-grandchildren;  great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Neubauer; her brother, Gordon (Ruth) Wrennick; nieces and nephews; and friend Harvey Coté.  She was predeceased by husband, Pete Janzen; son, Robert Janzen; son-in-law, Roger Massé; parents, Louis and Jeanne (nee Coe) Wrennick; half-sister, Mary Olson; and brother-in-law, Leonard Neubauer.  A Private Family Funeral Service was held on at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis.   Music ministry was provided by organist Joan Jackson.  Active pallbearers were Bill Massé, Richard Soanes, Chance Soanes, Pat Finney, Darren Falk, and Chad Falk.  The honorary pallbearer was Gordon Wrennick.  Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Mary’s Villa Foundation.  Interment followed at Humboldt Public Cemetery.
