Viola Wourms

September 15, 1929 – November 8, 2016

The death of Mrs. Viola (nee Meyer) Wourms of Annaheim occurred at St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.  She was 87 years of age.  Viola was born on September 15, 1929, to John and Hildegard (Kramer) Meyer at Annaheim, SK.  She grew up and attended school in Annaheim.  After school she worked at the Aschenbrenner Store.  On October 17, 1950 she married Ben Wourms at St. Ann’s Church in Annaheim.  They made their home in Annaheim where their three children were born and raised.  Viola was a homemaker and also contributed to both farming life and the construction business her and Ben had.  Then some years later things came full circle and she was once again working the same Aschenbrenner  Store which they had purchased and ran for many years.  When she was not busy working at the store she spent many hours working in her yard and garden, which she took great pride in and kept well maintained.  She also enjoyed reading and cleaning.  Her house was spotless which she often took ribbings about from her family.  Countless hours were also spent helping putting the finishing touches on Ben & Brad’s furniture that they made in their family shop.  Family was the most important part of her life.  She followed along with all her kids, grandkids and great grandkids activities.  Although she didn’t enjoy watching sports she did enjoy hearing about how her grandkids and great-grandkids did and always had a loonie or toonie to give out for goals scored.  Since she always had to keep things fair, all the grandchildren usually got paid for each other’s goals.  Sunday Family Suppers were a tradition that she carried on for many years.  She enjoyed cooking supper every Sunday for any family that could make it, which amazingly was usually everyone. Over the past few years Viola battled Alzheimer’s and on January 23, 2015 she moved into St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt, SK, where she spent the remainder of her life.  Viola will be lovingly remembered by her three children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren:  MAXINE (Art) Vanderlinde of Annaheim, SK and family, Shawna (Evan) Doepker of Annaheim and their children Brooklyn and Joshua of Annaheim, SK, and Rylan (Leslie) Vanderlinde of Humboldt, SK; LYNN Wourms (Pat Wittig) of Humboldt and family, Blair (Jen) Wourms of Humboldt, SK and Mitchell (Michelle) Wourms of Saskatoon, SK; and BRAD Wourms of Annaheim, SK; three sisters: Leona (Maurice) Roenspies of Lethbridge, Marg Doepker and Adeleine Meyer both of Humboldt; two brothers: Dave (Florence) Meyer of Calgary and Randy Meyer of Kindersley; as well as  numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband Ben Wourms; parents John and Hilda Meyer; daughter-in-law, Marianne Wourms; three brothers: Melvin, Richard and Murray Meyer; one sister Millie Raskob; two brothers-in-law: Jerry Raskob and Harold Doepker.  The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Annaheim, SK  on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Anthony Atter and concelebrated by Fr. Rudolph Novecosky, OSB.  Others taking part were:  Shawna Doepker, crossbearer; Michelle Wourms and Jen Wourms, scripture readers; Leslie Vanderlinde, intentions; Joshua Doepker and Brooklyn Doepker, giftbearers.  Music ministry was provided by organist Lorraine Holtvogt and members of St. Ann’s Parish Choir.  Honorary pallbearers were “All those who shared in Viola’s life.”  Active pallbearers were Brad Wourms, Mitchell Wourms, Rylan Vanderlinde, Art Vanderlinde, Lynn Wourms, Blair Wourms, and Evan Doepker.  Interment took place at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Annaheim, SK.  Memorial donations may be directed to St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery Fund or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
