Walter Romashenko
July 17, 1949 – April 17, 2017

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce that Walter John Romashenko passed away peacefully in his home. Walter “Wally” John Romashenko was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on July 17, 1949 to Michael and Rose (nee Ritzand) Romashenko of the Burr District.  Wally enjoyed hunting, bingo, going for long drives to look at the country side by the old homestead where he grew up. He took part in many of the church and town functions, always willing to help anyone out.  He enjoyed playing the VLT’s, riding his bike around town, going to auction and garage sales, fixing cars and lawn mowers. He also loved his dogs.  Walter is survived by his daughter, Donna Romashenko of Parkridge Long Term Care Center, Saskatoon; sisters, Helen Romashenko, Verna (Julius) Nagy, Dee Earis, Sally (Laurie) Gascon; brother, Nick (Yvonne) Romashenko; in-laws Wayne Gould and Sandy Romashenko; aunt Olga Romashenko; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Walter was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Rose (nee Ritzand) Romashenko; Donna’s mother; brothers, Edward and Pete; sister Jean Gould; and nephews Terry Romashenko and Wayne Nagy. A Prayer Service was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 7:30 p.m., celebrated by Bishop Bryan Bayda C.Ss.R. The Funeral Mass was offered at All Saints Ukranian Catholic Church Humboldt, SK on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Bishop Bryan Bayda C.Ss.R. Others taking part were:  David Babey, crossbearer; Lorianne Earis, epistle reader; Theresa Hiebert-Bodnar, cantor.  Pallbearers were Kevin Earis, Darin Gould, Russel Kachur, Kenny Babey, Dallas Senfy and Ken Merkosky.  Interment followed at Sacred Heart Ukranian Catholic Cemetery in the Burr District, presided by Deacon Myron Yamniuk.  Memorial donations may be directed to a trust fund for Walter’s daughter Donna for future burial beside her father as this was Walter’s wish.
