The AAA Muenster Midget Red Sox will leadoff their third season Sunday in Swift Current.

Coming off a third place finsih at the national championships in Quebec last year Head Coach Chad Hofmann hopes for more of the same success.

"Last year it doesn't get much better than what happened to us with an exciting provinvial win and then getting a medal at nationals. We do have eight returning players from last year's team so you never know, hopefully things work out for us again."

They did lose five key contributors, Parker McRae, David Lacoursiere, Bryce Rueve, Jayden Engele and Adam Gerwing all have graduated from the midget ranks.

However Hofmann is still confident in this year's group.

"We do have some guys that have that experience and hopefully like I said they can draw off that experience from the previous year and a couple big games they have been in in the past. We will see what happens."

They recruited a couple third year players from the AA Humboldt Dodgers for this season, Morgan Gobiel and Tom Bollefer will make the jump to AAA. First year players last year Craig McWillie and Rylan Marianchuk will be stronger, McWillie will be a late edition to the roster, he's currently at a baseball academy in Okotoks.

Hofmann is excited about two up and comers as well in Jayden Huls and Matthew McGrath. Overall they have eight last year players, three second year kids and the pair of first years.

"It's always exciting to start up another year," Hofmann beamed. "Especially with the group we do have returning and some of the new guys. Everyone is excited to get going."

They will play 30 regular season games, 16 will be in Muenster. They will have their first home games on Sunday, May 7th.
