The Humboldt Aquatic Centre will be splashing about on May 1st as the Humboldt Synchronized Swimming Club has their end of the year showcase.

Leisl Lefebvre the coach with the group explains what synchronized swimming is.

"Is a cross between gymnastics, dance, and swimming, but the athletic ability that they need to do, the strength they need to be able to actually perform the figures and the nice patterns and stuff that we're all used to seeing is a lot more reminiscent of gymnastics and dance, so it's a combination of all three."

Lefebvre does say that there are some similarities to speed swimming but in synchronized swimming its about, "synchronization and grace, so even though your using the exact same movements there's a lot different way to look at it."

The group is currently comprised of seven members but they are always looking for more. Coach Lefebvre says, "we need to gradually increase our numbers."

Humboldt's club is just finishing up their first year with this showcase being the wrap up to the session.

The event starts at 5:30pm and is free to the public.

Lefebvre mentions, "The show this Sunday is going to be about a half and hour long there's not going to be a ton of content because again we all just learning this sport as were going along."

Anyone wanting to join can pick up information at Sunday nights show and ask questions there.
