It was a bittersweet victory for Terry Zimmerman and the Humboldt Broncos Special Olympics soccer team at the Raiders Prairie Soccer Invitational.

“When we were there two years ago we had won silver and I could see the disappointment in the players’ faces. They tried really hard. This year they’re beaming, all happy, it actually hurts my heart for the other team, because they were distraught.”

The weekend tournament in Regina saw the Broncos place first in their pool and then defeat the Saskatoon Ice 8-2 in Sunday’s gold medal game.

The team will take the summer off before starting practices again during the winter.
