The Swift Current Broncos and Lethbridge Hurricanes announced a blockbuster trade on Tuesday morning, involving a local player.

Logan Barlage was moved from the Broncos to Lethbridge in the multi-player and picks deal.

The Humboldt product was the fourth overall selection of Swift Current in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft and joined the team for their playoff run last season.

Barlage, who turns 17 on Friday, made it on to the club full-time this season playing in 38 games, tallying seven points along the way.

Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt said at a morning news conference that Barlage was the big fish in completing the deal.

"Adding a guy like him, a premier player as a 16-year-old, we believe he is going to be a big, big piece of the Hurricanes going forward and has a real good chance to be an outstanding pro."

Anholt noted that Barlage's presence on the team will not just be for down the road.

"He is the future, but also the present, as we believe he can contribute right now."

The Hurricanes sent top scorer Giorgio Estephan, starting goaltender Stuart Skinner and Tanner Nagel to the Broncos.

Along with Barlage, Lethbridge receives goalie Logan Flodell, forward Owen Blocker, defenseman Matthew Stanley, and multiple draft picks, including Swift Current's first round pick in the 2020 draft.

Anholt says that Barlage and the other players were told about the deal in the morning, and they are expected to be in the lineup Tuesday night at the Hurricanes visit Red Deer.
