Logan Boulet scored 2:14 into overtime, as the Humboldt Broncos edged the Kindersley Klippers 2-1 at the Elgar Petersen Arena on Wednesday night.

Boulet received a drop pass from Logan Schatz in the extra session and buried it past Klippers goalie Justen Close for the winner.

The 20-year-old blueliner said post-game that he almost went off on a change before spotting his chance.

"I was debating going off the ice at first and then I saw an opening, so I thought I better put this in or it's going to be 3-on-0 or 3-on-1 the other way."

It was Boulet's third goal of the season, and for the Broncos, their second win in overtime this season.

Boulet says that the new format is enjoyable to play.

"I like 3-on-3 a lot better. There is a lot more ice and you can slow the game right down, or speed it right back up. It's pretty fun."

The new overtime format was brought in ahead of last season to help cut back on shootouts and create more excitement for the fans in the five minute session.

Wednesday's win bumped the Broncos record to 7-5-1 for a total of 15 points, which for the time being, places them second in the Olympic Buildings Division.

Kindersley has a game in hand in third place, while Battlefords is six games behind the Broncos in games played throughout the first month of the season.

On his team's start to the year, Boulet things it is all coming together.

"We had a couple injuries and some bumps here and there, but we have a couple of games coming up that we can definitely get some points from, so I think we are looking pretty good for the future."

Humboldt will visit Melville for their next game on Friday. The Millionaires then return to the EPA for a rematch on Saturday night.

Matthieu Gomercic had the Broncos lone goal in regulation, scoring in the first period on the power play. Jacob Wassermann started his fourth straight game and made 21 saves to earn his fifth win of the season.
