The Humboldt Broncos and their General Manager feel they have upgraded their goaltending situation.

Earlier this week they acquired 20 year-old Garrett Mason from the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Whitecourt Wolverines.

Going the other way was 1997 born winger Andrew Thompson and the junior "A" rights of Drew Warkentine who is expected to stick again with the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders.

"Honestly I am pretty excited," Mason said from his home in Okotoks on Wednesday. "I just want to see what I can bring to the organization."

Mason started his junior career in Drayton Valley where he he played 35 games in two seasons, he had stops in both Spruce Grove and the Wolverines. Overall he has a record of 28-16-9. Only once, his rookie season has he had a goals against average over .300 and never has his save percentage dipped below .900.

"Obviously last year losing 17 games by a goal, which includes some of the games with empty netters, we felt if we can tackle it from that end," explained Darcy Haugan, the man who puled the trigger on the deal. "Maybe it's another key save that Garrett provides us that helps us put a few more wins in the win column."

Mason says he's up to the challenge of becoming a go-to guy in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

"The leadership piece of being a 20 year-old and then the consistency of playing night in-night out and giving the team the best possible chance to win."

"I'm looking forward to it, I can't wait."
