The Humboldt Broncos are leaving the Yorkton Terriers with a sour taste following the end of their season series on Sunday night in Yorkton.

Conner Lukan, Jaxon Joseph, and Layne Matechuk each had two goals, as the Broncos hammered the Terriers for the second straight night, skating to a 7-2 win.

Newcomer McKullen Astill had the other goal for Humboldt in his first game played as a member of the green and gold, depositing the puck off a feed from Derek Patter, who made a highlight play cutting through the Terriers defence in the slot to find Astill.

"He skates extremely well. Attention to detail was really noticeable. He works hard and we think he has a really high skill set," said Head Coach Darcy Haugan on Astill. "I think again it is a situation that he wasn't being utilized. We watched a lot of video on him and he is also a kid we were trying to recruit this past summer."

Astill, who has ties to the Spalding area, played 15 games for the Merritt Centennials before being acquired by the Broncos at the first roster deadline on December 1.

The Broncos also saw the first bit of playing time from their other recent acquisition.

Parker Tobin started in goal for Humboldt, stopping 23 of 25 shots faced in picking up his first SJHL win. Tobin was picked up from the Spruce Grove Saints on November 29.

Broncos Captain Logan Schatz had another strong night on the scoresheet, tallying four assists. He now has 40 points this season, placing him 6th overall among SJHL scorers.

Sunday's game in Yorkton also marked the end of the season series between the two teams, who met for the sixth time.

The Broncos won all six games, adding Sunday's result to a growing list of headaches for the Terriers, who were outscored 38-10 by Humboldt over those games.

It was also the first of five straight road games for Humboldt, who head to Battlefords on Tuesday before a Friday-Saturday two-gamer in Flin Flon. The Broncos then visit Kindersley on December 12.

"It doesn't matter to us where we play, and if we want to be a good hockey team, we need to win on the road. We're going to be tested here, but we like our group and we are going to be prepared heading into these games," said Haugan.

The Broncos next home game will be December 15 against Nipawin before another set of five road games, which will be interrupted by the Christmas break.
