The end score Friday night in Weyburn between the Broncos and Wings looks all too familiar to Humboldt fans this season but hidden behind the 7-3 loss was a hockey game the green and gold had a chance to maybe pull out a win.

With Weyburn taking an early 1-0 lead on a pretty tip by Ty Brown the Broncos would be forced to fight from behind once again.

They did rebound with some push back generating a pair of first period power-plays but the visitors failed to capitalize on either of them.

Then before the opening frame was out, the Wings would get their own goal on a man advantage giving the home side a 2-0 lead courtesy Mason Anderson.

Fresh off the first break Humboldt got back into it early in the second when while short-handed Logan Schatz went coast to coast splitting the Wings defense before slipping his seventh past Carter Phair to cut the lead to 2-1.

However the one goal deficit was very short lived, Ian Parker scored just four seconds later on the same PP to restore the Wings two goal cushion and the hill was pretty steep from there.

"We definitely had some chances there early to score some power-play goals which we didn't, it happens, it's not a big deal" Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko said on the post game show. "They score one there and we're still doing okay, all of a sudden we score a short-handed goal to make it 2-1 and we're in a hockey game. You kill that penalty off it might be a different story and different game."

It wouldn't be however as the Viterra Division leaders took charge, Drake Glover and Jeremy Lagler both beat Carter Seminuk before the second period was out giving Weyburn a comfortable 5-1 lead at the final break.

Lagler would reply again while short-handed to make it 6-1 before Humboldt got another goal from Schatz and Chris Van Os-Shaw who was making his Broncos' debut versus his old team. He would add an assist on Schatz's second of the night, so did Josh Bergen.

The Wings would get one more from Aiden Teilborg to cap the scoring 7-3.

Klimosko said they knew Weyburn would be ready after they were upset earlier in the week by the much lower seeded Yorkton Terriers.

"They were ready for us and we were right there with them for the most part, you just have to capitalize at those certain times. I told the boys at the intermission, just the turnovers, almost all the goals were off a turnover of some kind and you have to learn that can't happen."

Humboldt gave up a season high in shots allowing 53, Seminuk was superb kicking aside 46 shots in his first start with the Broncos, Phair was much more under worked, he stopped 18/21.

The power-plays did end close, Weyburn was 2/6, Humboldt had the one power-play goal in the same amount of opportunities but as mentioned, the timing was critical in the outcome.

The Broncos will visit the Estevan Bruins Saturday night, catch the game on KMK Sales Broncos' hockey starting at 7:15, face-of is 7:30.
