The Humboldt Broncos exploded for a handful of second period goals en route to a nerve wracking 5-4 slighting of the Melville Millionaires Saturday finally solving the money men.

Humboldt's experiences of late versus Melville have been less than comfortable, the Mils came into Saturday night's contest with a pair of victories over the green and gold this season but the Broncos felt it was a stretch of seven minutes over two games that cost them four points.

On September 25th, the Mils needed just over three minutes to open a 3-0 lead over Humboldt that led to a 3-1 Melville win. Second the loss of Logan Schatz, game one of the showcase was a disaster. They met again on October 28th, Melville was up 3-0; 3:17 into the first and the Broncos never caught up leading to a 6-3 downfall.

Melville was making their first visit to the Elgar Petersen Arena this year and were essentially out matched when the Broncos decided to take control in the second period.

After a slow start through 20 minutes the Broncos finally exploded for five goals including a pair from Trevor Posch.

"We did good there, we came out hard in the second but I still think we still have to work do closing them out instead of letting them come back like that. A win is a win, we'll take it and we haven't had one at home here in a while so it feels good."

Posch notched his 13th and 14th of the year, Josh Roberts, Connor Swystun and Logan Boulet all hit the score sheet for the home side.

Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko agreed this was an important two points.

"We needed to win in this rink again, it's been a long time, October 22nd is a long time. Even the last couple years that we've had some weaker teams I don't know if we've went on a stretch that long without winning a game at home. We have to start winning at the EPA."

Garrett Mason made 25 saves for his 15th victory of the year, Humboldt chased started Colby Entz who allowed three goals on 17 Humboldt shots, Brandon Wells came on in relief and suffered the loss allowing a pair on 16 shots.

Brayden Camrud chipped in with two assists, as did Chris Van Os-Shaw and Luke Kempf. Roberts had two points, Erik Gardiner added a helper to cap the Broncos scoring.

Humboldt now heads to Yorkton Sunday for their fourth meeting with the Terriers. A team they have yet to lose to, Posch hopes that continues Sunday night.

"That would be awesome, that's our goal. We've got to win Sunday, I think it's a huge game. I think we can do it."

Special teams weren't that, Humboldt didn't score in four chances, the Millionaires did take advantage one one of their four power-play opportunities.

Puck drop is 6pm at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

Elsewhere in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Saturday night, Melfort edged Weyburn 4-3 in overtime, Reed Gunville scored the winner, and in the other game the Battlefords thumped the Klippers 6-0.

You can hear more from Klimosko, Posch below as well as from Tristan Elder who made his Bronco debut collecting an assist.
