There is no other way to put it, the Humboldt Broncos are a different team when they are forced away from the Elgar Petersen Arena.

Fresh off a spirited picture perfect 6-3 win over the Melfort Mustangs on Tuesday the green and gold clammed up in the third allowing four goals to the much less frightening Yorkton Terriers team en route to an 8-4 showing.

The Saturday night defeat was Humboldt's 21st straight loss on the road dating back to the first week of the regular season, September 25th to be exact.

The Broncos could have used some of those available points as well, the Terriers win widens the gap to five between the teams as they contend for the final Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoff position.

Yorkton opened the scoring in the first when Cole Keenleyside beat Ryan LaRochelle on a long wrist shot making it 1-0 early on.

Humboldt would draw even before the first was out, Michael Korol redirected a Corey Dambrauskas point shot at 17:59 making it 1-1. Korol's eighth was also assisted by Josh Roberts.

After one the shots were 13-9 Yorkton, things got much messier in the middle frame.

Just 32 seconds in Trevor Posch would finish a spectacular three-on-two rush with Chris Van Os-Shaw and Logan Schatz to give Humboldt a 2-1 lead on Posch's 11th. Schatz's point pushed his points streak to nine games, the 18 year-old from Allan has 19 points in that span. Van Os-Shaw has points in his four games in Humboldt totaling 10.

This time Yorkton responded, McKenzie Welke batted a rebound out of midair on a power play making it 2-2 at the 3:50 mark.

The Terriers would regain the lead just prior to the halfway point, LJ Naccarato would rifle his first goal in the SJHL off a Broncos' turnover making 3-2.

The visitors would claw back again this time getting their own turnover allowing Rock Ruschkowski to tap home his sixth past a helpless Matt Kustra tying the game 3-3 with 6:40 to play.

Posch added his second of the night finishing another rush with Schatz and Van Os-Shaw putting the Broncos back up 4-3.

Humboldt couldn't hold the lead though, Jordan Ross would tie it in the final minute of the second period forcing a 4-4 tie heading to the second intermission.

An early Terrier tally from Brandon Sookro gave the home team the lead just 2:10 into the third, they wouldn't relinquish it pumping three more by LaRochelle late adding insult to injury.

Keenleyside, Devin Gerwing and Welke capped the scoring. Amazingly that trio of goals came within a span of 1:41, all while playing four-on-four due to penalties.

Add the two Humboldt gave up to Melfort Tuesday in the same situation, that's five in 3:30 minutes of time during that situation, they escaped at home, the Farrell Agencies Arena left no where to hide in the dying minutes.

Assistant Coach Blair Wourms had an explanation during the post-game show.

"The first goal that went in made it a two goal lead I believe and I think it was a little deflating for our guys and I think that's part. There's a lot of room on the ice and I think two, we're pushing for a goal and you maybe fly the zone a little quicker than you would and it goes back."

LaRochelle allowed all eight in 45 shots, Kustra kicked aside 23 or 27.

The power-plays although minimal were in the opponents favour as well, Yorkton scored on their only chance, Humboldt did not.

"The mistakes we're making," Wourms continued. "Some of them are being magnified because they are go in the back of our net. It's tough, young teams are going to make mistakes, it's one of those things, it's extremely frustrating."

With the eight the Terriers put up, the Broncos have allowed 25 goals against on the road in the last three games, those coming off 146 shots.

With now just 12 games to go, half away from the EPA, the Broncos need to find points on the road. Their first chance is the venue where they last won away from home, the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon.

That is Friday night at 7:30, Saturday they will be in LaRonge for a date with the Ice Wolves, that's a 7pm start.

You can hear Wourms' complete post game remarks below.

Elsewhere Saturday night in the SJHL, the Melville Millionaires fell 3-1 to the Estevan Bruins 3, the Nipawin Hawks downed the Kindersley Klippers 6-2, Melfort Mustangs clipped the Weyburn Red Wings 5-3 and the Flin Flon Bombers edged the La Ronge Ice Wolves 3-2 in overtime.
