The Humboldt Broncos showed flashes of what could be, however they also showed plenty of what is on Tuesday night in Estevan.

Through two periods on Tuesday the green and gold looked like the struggling hockey club that has won seven games in 24 tries, in the final 20 minutes they appeared to be more like the team that throttled the Estevan Bruins in early October; unfortunately the opening two-thirds of the game was much like the latter.

Humboldt fell behind 2-0 after one period and never really got close outside the final two minutes of the third period as they suffered their 13th defeat of the season.

"It was a lot crisper, we made some passes, we made some plays, we had some confidence," Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko said on the post game show. "Obviously we still lost a hockey game and the first two periods were as ugly as before I believe. It still wasn't good, it wasn't good at all, it was disgusting. In saying that the third was great, we have to focus on the positives here."

Estevan got goals from Lynnden Pastachak and Owen Laclare in first period to take a 2-0 lead to the second. That lead was cut to to 2-1 when Logan Schatz notched his third of the year early in the second period. Trevor Posch earned the lone assist.

Estevan wold restore their two goal lead and more in the middle period. Pastachak quickly added his second, Ty and Levi Barnstable each beat Brett Clark in the second as well as Darcy Deroose and Keegan Allison.

The lead was 7-2 before Wesley Shipton scored with just seven seconds left to make it 7-3 after 40 minutes.

The Broncos would not quit in the final frame, in the last five minutes they got goals from Corey Dambrauskas, Daniel Mckitrick and Anthony Kapelke but a late empty net goal from Allison with 15 seconds to go stymied the comeback.

Brett Clark allowed seven goals on 32 shots, Brett Friesen played the third making one save. Tyler Fuhr allowed six on 31.

"It was nice to see what Broncos hockey was all about," Klimosko said about the the third period. "That was the first time I have seen it in a long time. It was nice to see, we made a lot of nice plays, we got a lot of traffic to the net. It's amazing what that does when you have a lot of traffic, all of a sudden goals from the point can go in."

Posch had three assists in the game, Mckitrick chipped in with three points as well.

Back to the drawing board for Wednesday's affair in Notre Dame, the Broncos meet the Hounds in Wilcox at 8 o'clock. The pre-game show of KMK Sales Broncos' hockey begins at 7:45.
