Eight was great but nine is divine.

It was a back and forth affair but the Humboldt Broncos were able to pull out a 5-4 victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves to stretch the winning streak to nine.

In the first period, the Broncos jumped out to the 1-0 lead after former Ice Wolve Derek Patter wired a one-timer up and over the blocker of wolves’ goalie Jordan Frey. Cole Kirkup and Reid Arnold picked up the assists. After La Ronge tied it at one, Cole Kirkup netter his 4th goal of the season assisted by Patter and Colin MacPherson.

In the second period, it was the Ice Wolves who struck twice to take a 3-2 lead. With just over three minutes left in the middle frame, Brayden Camrud scored his 26th of the year to tie the game. Camrud has been on a goal-scoring tear as of late. He now has a league-best five-game goal streak, along with five consecutive multi-point games. Camrud’s 26th takes over the team lead in goals surpassing Michael Clarke’s 25 goals and was assisted by Chase Felgueiras and Logan Foster.

The third period provided the same back and forth action. La Ronge restored their lead eight minutes into the final frame which left the Broncos down to the final 12 minutes to keep their winning streak alive.

Que an unsung hero, as defensive stalwart Mark Edmands, who replaced Josh Patrician on the power play following Patrician’s ejection for fighting, fired a seeing-eye shot to tied the game at 4. This was Edmands’ first goal as a Humboldt Bronco and was assisted by Camrud and Drew Warkentine. With the assist, Warkentine extended his point streak to seven games.

The game found its final lead change as the puck found the back of the net once again by Brayden Camrud and his third point of the night assisted by Logan Foster and Bryson Cecconi. The Broncos were able to hold on the 5-4 lead for their ninth win in a row and now sit tied for first place in the division with six games remaining.

Rayce Ramsay stopped 36 of 40 to win his seventh consecutive start and ninth of his last 10.

The Broncos look to extend the winning streak to double digits when they take on the Ice Wolves once more on Saturday night to wrap up the season series.
