The Broncos dropped their third straight contest Friday night falling 3-1 to the visiting Nipawin Hawks in their first meeting of the season.

Despite a slow start and an opening period of being out shot at a three to one pace the home side stuck with the veteran laden Hawks line up until the end but couldn't overcome another game losing the battle of the special teams.

Nipawin scored power-play goals from Eric Bolden in the first period and Garret Dunlop in the middle frame for the game winner. The Broncos were 0/4 with their generated man advantages while the Hawks were 2/4. Other than that there was plenty to like as Assistant Coach Blair Worms said after the game.

"The shot clock at one time was a little lopsided but I liked our game tonight, I thought we were okay. I thought we generated some stuff off the rush, we got the puck in deep, we won some battles and created some scoring chances, we just couldn't beat the goalie. There is a lot of positives to build off."

Nicolas Reimer provided an insurance marker for the Hawks late in the second which was enough for the visitors to clamp down and snag the two points from the green and gold.

They will complete a home and home weekend series Saturday at the Cage in Nipawin. Wourms feels they can even this two game set which would provide a happy ending to a difficult week for the Broncos.

"I think we played right with them tonight and the difference I guess was a couple power-play goals and they capitalized and we didn't. A lot of times were carried the majority of the play and I think especially for a young team you have to let them know these things will happen and you can't quit now."

Brett Clark had another standout game for the Broncos in the crease stopping 38/41, Kristian Stead was strong in the Hawks net as well, he gave up just one on 26 Humboldt chances.
