The Broncos managed to grind a point out of a 3-2 overtime loss versus the Nipawin Hawks Monday afternoon in front of over 1,200 fans during the matinee affair.

The sixth and final meeting of the season between the clubs capped a grueling weekend for Humboldt that also included a trip to Nipawin and a venture to the Battlefords. Overall in a four game run in six days they grabbed three key points.

Head Coach Darcy Haugan is proud of the compete in his banged up bunch.

"We challenged them before the weekend here, we saw some things that we didn't like, obviously that LaRonge game and certain things there. The effort was definitely there tonight, a team you can very proud of. There is some things we need to clean up but we're playing a very good hockey team."

The Broncos watched a hungry Hawk team push the pace in the opening ten minutes, they stood their ground and killed a pair of penalties, the home team pushed back to help keep it 0-0 after 20 minutes.

Trevor Posch opened the scoring in the second, he jammed a rebound past Declan Hobbs at 3:42 from Chris Van Os-Shaw and Logan Schatz. The 20 year-old reached the 20 goal milestone for the second straight season.

The lead wouldn't last long however, Josh Bly deflected a pass past Garrett Mason just 43 seconds after Humboldt made it 1-0.

The Hawks would generate a lead before the break, Keillan Olsen redirected a Tanner Reynolds shot making it 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.

With just two wins when trailing going to the third this year the Broncos didn't quit, Schatz buried a rebound past Hobbs after Van Os-Shaw went coast to coast allowing a Posch chance before the Humboldt captain knotted his eighth to tie it at 2-2.

In a fast paced, playoff type preview 60 minutes wasn't enough to decide the contest, Eric Bolden would give Nipawin the extra point wrapping it under the left pad of Mason with just 40 seconds left in the extra period.

Mason was outstanding for the fourth consecutive night, he turned aside 41 shots in the OTL.

"He sure was dialed in for sure," Haugan said of his veteran netminder. "A lot of big saves, especially that first period, we could have been down. I thought we finished that period well but early on we could have been two, three right away and it could have been the hockey game right there but Garrett was dialed in for sure."

Hobbs was stingy as well for the Hawks turning aside 41 of his own, it was simply a one shot contest.

The special teams were a wash, each team scoreless, the Hawks had five chances including a lengthy five-on-three power-play in the second period, the Broncos couldn't capitalize on any of their four opportunities.

The point was critical for Humboldt, they still sit 5th overall in the standings, one point up on Yorkton who has played two more games. They beat Weyburn 2-1 in overtime on Monday afternoon in the other Family Day holiday game in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

The Broncos are now off until Friday when they travel to Flin Flon to take on the Bombers, Saturday they are in LaRonge.
