The Humboldt Broncos are enjoying quite the turnaround season.

Playing in their 29th contest Tuesday in Yorkton means they have reached the midway point of the campaign and with their 4-1 victory they have equaled their number of triumphs last year with 17.

Overall their mark is 17-11-1 moving into the second half.

Chris Van Os-Shaw led the way against the Terriers, the 19 year-old scored his Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League leading 21st goal 4:11 into the first, he added his 22nd a minute prior to the halfway point of the second period and he capped the scoring in the third with his hat trick tally into an empty net with Nathan Hargrave on the bench for an extra attacker.

Despite another monstrous night for the Regina product, he acknowledged the back to back wins away from the Elgar Petersen Arena.

"It's been tough on the road but lately we've been figuring out how to get these W's on the road so it's good."

Brayden Camrud and Cole Young earned points on the first Broncos' marker, Laramie Kostelansky was credited with the lone assist on the second goal, Connor Swystun picked up the only helper on the empty netter.

Matthieu Gomercic scored arguably the biggest goal of the night at 13:56 of the third period extending Humboldt's lead to 3-1 after the Terriers did draw it to 1-1 early in the second. Luke Kempf and Dawson Atamanchuk set up Gomercic for his second of the season.

Van Os-Shaw said the start was important for them and has been all year long.

"Scoring the first is a big momentum shifter for us, I don't think we've scored first in the last six or seven. It's a big momentum shift and it helps us."

Special teams have turned around of late as well, the Broncos went 1/4 with the power-play including two goals during delayed calls, they forced the Terriers to go 0/5 on their opportunities.

Garrett Mason has won back to back games in goal now as well, he was brilliant turning aside 39/40, Hargrave was solid as well, he was on the hook for three on 41 shots.

The Broncos will open their December schedule versus the Battlefords at home on Friday night, they have lost ten in a row against the Finning division leaders. After that their next seven before the Christmas break are against teams behind them in the standings.

After a 3-7 November Van Os-Shaw said this is a crucial stretch.

"The wins are what we really need right now, after Christmas it's going to get harder and harder battling through until playoff time. We need these wins and two points, just got to keep rolling."

Friday's contest with the Stars is slated for 7:30.

There was just one other game Tuesday, Notre Dame downed Kindersley 3-1 to stay three points back of Humboldt in the Finning division.
