It wasn't pretty but not every Broncos' win will be this season, the bottom line is they won, 3-2 over the Melfort Mustangs Tuesday night.

"It feels really good to get the win out of the way, it was greasy but two points is two points," Humboldt netminder Garrett Mason lamented after the contest, the Broncos' 11th win of the campaign.

Mason was the difference, the 20 year-old from Okotoks was stupendous making 38 saves through 65 minutes and another three in the shoot-out.

"The game isn't close without him in my opinion," Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko said on the post-game show of their puck stopper who won his league best ninth game. "He did everything and much more tonight, even in the shoot-out he doesn't allow a goal, all we need in one in theirs."

Daniel McKitrick did provide that winner in the SO, the 19 year-old Nunavut product also scored his 10th in the first period.

That followed rookie Antonio DiPaolo's first career goal.

Melfort was all over the Broncos in the first 10 minutes but Mason stopped 19/20 in the first, the Broncos took a 2-1 lead to the first break.

Justin Ball answered in the second knotting the contest at 2-2. That stood through the third and five minutes of overtime before McKitrick scored the lone goal of six snipers. Erik Gardiner and Chris Van Os-Shaw couldn't beat Ryan Ternes who made 26 saves and 2/3 in the SO in the loss.

Dakota Boutin, Jaxon Joseph and Kalem Zary were all stymied by Mason.

The quiet and composed netminder was happy to help his team win when the fire power wasn't smoking.

"It feels fantastic to know I am able to do my job."

Not only did the Broncos get a little bit better netminding, their special teams was simply that, the Mustangs finished just 1/7, Humboldt scored once in just two chances with the man advantage.

Next up for the Broncos is the Battlefords Stars on the road Friday, Mason said they need to be better if they hope to win their third straight.

"Just full effort, play 60 minutes instead of 20 and make sure everyone is going."

Face-off is 7:30 at the Civic Centre, the pregame show will begin at 7:15 on your radio or online.
