The Humboldt Broncos have a record of 3-3-2 to start the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season which is solid footing for sure, one note with that standing is their three regulation losses have been by a total of 13 goals.

The have two 6-2 defeats to go along with their most recent result, a 5-0 drubbing courtesy the Battlefords North Stars Wednesday at the SJHL Showcase in Warman. Their Finning division rivals own one of those 6-2 games as well.

However at the end of the day it still simply means another loss, hopefully it's a learning opportunity for the young Broncos' lineup.

"It's a learning experience," captain Anthony Kapelke said after Wednesday's game. "Sometimes you learn the most from the blowouts and the poor games, we didn't generate enough shots and they generated too many. They are a good team but it's still early on, like I said it's a learning experience."

The Broncos trail the Battlefords by eight points already in the division but the season still has 50 games to go so Kapelke isn't hitting the panic button yet, he said they simply wanted to correct the little things Wednesday and build off something as they prepare for a weekend home and home set with the highly touted Nipawin Hawks.

"We still obviously wanted to win the game going into the third and I thought in the third we played well," then 20 year-old leader added. "We won the majority of the draws which is something we strive for and we set little goals throughout the period and I think we obtained those so that's the most important thing."

The Broncos get the Hawks at home first starting Friday night at the Elgar Petersen Arena with a 7:30 ace-off. Nipawin has had a strong start as well to the year posting a record of 6-1-1 but Kapelke is chomping at the bit for the test and hopefully back to back wins.

"Nipawin is strong, they were strong last year and we haven't faced them yet this year but we should be okay. I mean no one loves going to Nipawin in that small rink, the 'cage' but it's good. It's a fun atmosphere and we're definitely looking forward to a potential four points."

FCC representatives will be on hand at the EPA taking food and monetary donations for their "Drive for Hunger" campaign. All the proceeds will stay right here with the local food bank.

Puck drop is 7:30 but prior to the game the Broncos will have a small ceremony regarding the "Seed for Green, Harvest for Gold" fundraiser that has recently wrapped up.

Saturday night's back end of the home and home is also at 7:30 in Nipawin, catch that game on your radio beginning with the pre-game show of KMK Sales Broncos Hockey at 7:15.
