The Broncos hometown fans got their their first look at the 2016-17 club as the green and gold hosted the Melfort Mustangs a night after a 6-3 loss at the Northern Lights Palace.

The Elgar Petersen Arena faithful that turned out witnessed a confident 6-2 dusting of the back-to-back league champs.

Each team featured altered rosters with the Broncos likley older following the reverse on Friday. Largely in goal, 20 year-old puck stopper Garrett Mason looked comfortable again in his second start. He stopped 26/28 in the win.

Humboldt was led offensively by Logan Schatz, the 19 year-old sniper fired his second and third goals of the pre-season past Mustang netminder Derrick Hucul. The 98 born goalie allowed all six goals on 28 Humboldt shots.

Also hitting the scoresheet for the Broncos was Luke Kempf, Josh Roberts, Rock Ruschkowski and Kobe Scott.

Rylan Freed and Carson Albrecht replied for Melfort.

Those were both power play goals in the second period. Humboldt was assessed eight minors, they were credited with just two man advantage opportunities, they scored on one of them.

The Broncos will close their exhibition schedule Sunday night at 6 o'clock against Kindersley.

The regular season opener will be at the EPA on Saturday night, the team has a tail gate party planned with One Track Mind performing live.
